Veterinary medicine: Corneal lipidosis in dogs.
Veterinary medicine: Corneal lipidosis in dogs.Corneal lipidosis consists of cholesterol deposits in your dog's eye. These deposits might or might not interfere with your dog's vision or cause pain. Canine lipidosis might be hereditary in nature, hereditary corneal dystrophy begins in one eye, but eventually affects both of them, there is usually a cloudy area in the middle of the eye. Generally, vision isn't seriously impaired. Veterinary medicine: Corneal lipidosis in dogs.
Corneal degeneration often occurs because of irritation, so it usually affects only one eye. Cholesterol and mineral deposits develop as the cornea degenerates. Older canines often suffer from a form of corneal degeneration because of other health issues common in aged dogs, such as kidney disease. Dogs with high cholesterol levels, diabetes or hypothyroidism often develop corneal lipidosis in one or both eyes.

VETERINARY MEDICINE: Soaking Dry Dog food.
VETERINARY MEDICINE: Soaking Dry Dog food. If you've ever soaked your dog's food, you're aware of how much dry dog food expands when immersed in water. It's a little horrifying, actually, to realize how much more space a certain amount of food will require in a dog's stomach and gut once the dog's digestive juices hydrate the individual kibbles. It nearly doubles in volume. The kibbles are like little sponges - some more than others.
Soaking dry dog food by adding water will definitely increase the palatability of dry food for some dogs, help digestibility and prevents bloat. It is very important not to let moisten food stand for
long hours at room temperature to prevent bacterial growth . While most people soak the dry food with water, others use bone broth and many others use milk, just to ensure gut health of their pets.
According to MastiffLover "I've been soaking my dogs kibble for about 45 years now. When I was a little girl my parents best friends lost their dog to bloat and I remember them saying their vet told them that it was probably because they weren't soaking her food and that she would always drink a bunch of water after eating."
Jenny does these to her dogs kibble "If you give it enough 'soaking' time it will increase about four-fold :-(I no longer fed my dogs 'bowls' of dry food -- moistened of not. I prefer to feed hard biscuits -- large enough that they cannot be swallowed whole. I cannot understand WHY pet food manufacturers do not market their dry food as biscuit rather than pelletized bits. VETERINARY MEDICINE: How sea snakes, surrounded by salt water, quench their thirst.
VETERINARY MEDICINE: How sea snakes, surrounded by salt water, quench their thirst.Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink. Such is the lot in life for thirsty sea snakes—and yet they’ve found a way to thrive.
Most yellow-bellied sea snakes spend their entire lives at sea. They rarely end up on land and are vulnerable there, since their paddle-shaped tails and keeled undersides make crawling difficult. Armed with potent venom, they drift in a vast territory that encompasses much of the world’s oceans, riding the currents and hunting fish near the sea surface. Like other reptiles, these creatures need to drink water to survive. How does an animal surrounded by saltwater quench its thirst?
It used to be thought that these serpents drank from their salty surroundings. “Previous textbook dogma was that sea snakes drank seawater and excreted the excess salts using their sublingual salt glands,” explains Harvey Lillywhite, a biologist at the University of Florida. Recent work has proven that false—and a new study suggests that yellow-bellied sea snakes (Hydrophis platurus) rehydrate at sea by drinking rainwater that collects on the ocean surface.

A study by the American heart foundation,it was discovered that stockbrokers with high blood pressure who were given dogs experienced less surge in blood pressure when they are stressed compared to patients with same conditions but without dogs. Canine companionship is good and relaxing, well trained dogs have robust personalities, visit people in hospitals, retirement homes and orphanages.
Training a dog is an asset that comes with various benefits, according to Newyork times see how a trained dog fetched its owners 230,000 DOLLARS:
Guard dogs have long been used as a form of personal security, but they have now become a status symbol for the rich and famous. Julia, an elite guard dog, also known as an "executive protection dog," was purchased by her owner for the steep price of $230,000.
Julia and her ilk have some of the same tracking and fighting skills as the dogs used in elite military units like Navy Seal Team 6, which took a dog on its successful raid of Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan.
In fact, Julia was sold by a trainer, Harrison Prather, who used to supply dogs to Seal Team 6 and the British special forces. But then Mr. Prather switched to a more lucrative market.
He and others in the high-end dog training business say prices have shot up thanks to the growing number of wealthy people around the world who like the security — and status — provided by a dog with the right credentials. Moguls and celebrities now routinely pay $40,000 to $60,000 for a well-bred German shepherd that is certified as an expert in the sport of Schutzhund, which means “protection dog.” The price can go much higher if a dog does well at an international championship, as Julia did.
