Donald Trump 3Dprinting and business.

Freshmade 3D, a Youngstown-based 3D printing service bureau about an hour outside of Cleveland that specializes in rare automotive parts , they stepped away from their usual work to make something very different – a life-sized, 3D printed Donald Trump bobblehead. This feat has brought them loads of business thanks to the publicity the image has given them. Freshmade 3D has already seen an increase in business thanks to the publicity the project has gotten them. More requests for automotive parts than usual are beginning to come through the site, according to Wetzel, and the publicity and ensuing benefits for the company are likely to increase a lot more in the near future – not only because of this week, but because the company and their partners will also be printing a life-sized bobblehead of Hillary Clinton for the first presidential debate, which will take place in September in Dayton, Ohio. Cloning dogs to live forever.

A lab in south Korea is helping pet owners extend the relationship between them and their pets by cloning their pets so they could live forever. People deal with the loss of their pets in very different ways. Some carry on as normal, some may cuddle their pet’s favorite chew toy while sobbing and others immediately rush out and buy a replacement. This extra bond between pet lovers/owners and pets has evolved into seeking perpetuation of there pets ,this is done by cloning their dogs. The clinic called Sooam uses the same method that brought Dolly the sheep (1996 nuclear transfer to clone the dogs. The cells are taken from the pet to be cloned and the nucleus, that contains the organism’s genetic information, is removed and saved. Then an egg cell from a donor pet is obtained and the nucleus is replaced with that of the pet to be cloned. The egg cell is then given a small electric shock to stimulate division, and after a few days the developing embryo is placed back inside a surrogate bitch. The surrogate doesn’t have to be of the same breed, but ideally they would be of similar size. The pets are not like the original dogs, but more of an identical twin. Some dogs may also appear slightly different; the clones may also not have the same temperament as the original dog. The potential of extending a genetic line is huge ,the economic implication may not make it viable for all pet owners. The business of cloning is very lucrative as the cost ranges from $100,000-300,000 per client, not every dog lover can afford this luxury, this is also coupled with the fact that not all cloned dogs are healthy as some are put down after cloning. The choice of cloning should be weighed against risks and benefits and its entirely a decision of pet lover.

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN THE POULTRY INDUSTRY IN LAGOS.

The poultry industry is well grounded in Nigeria with an estimated worth of over 100 billion Naira. There are a large number of commercial players and also small holder farmers in the sector most of which are located in the south-western part of the country, with close proximity to Lagos state.

There is a large market for poultry products in the country as evidenced by the 1.2 million tonnes of products smuggled into the country annually, the recent ban on imported poultry products has opened up more markets for home-grown products.

A series of “megatrends” will permanently reshape agribusiness as the world’s producers and industry stakeholders re-calibrate to tackle the challenges of feeding 9 billion people in 2050, reports Christopher Nolan Sr., managing director at global professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.C. (PwC). The PwC’s top five global megatrends include:

1) Demographic shifts.
2) Shift in global economic power.
3) Accelerating urbanization
4). Resource scarcity
5)Evolving technology.

Lagos with a population of about 21 million people with majority in middle and upper class who show preference for poultry products, the state fits perfectly into the mega-trend that will shape agribusiness.

We have the population,(numbers) more people are moving to Lagos, we practice urban-agric and also incorporate greenhouse and biocrop technology.

The state itself has commercial farmers and small holder farmers in the poultry sector churning out large numbers of chicken and eggs .

The state with a vision to be Africa's mega city and global economic financial hub has dedicated zones and areas where poultry farms are domiciled. The state has invested heavily in the poultry sector with poultry estates in Ikorodu,Ojo ,farm settlements in Badagry and a training school in Epe.

The state with a policy thrust to eradicate poverty through infrastructural renewal and development recently embarked on an empowerment programme where cages, poultry equipment, eggs and suitable land was allocated to poultry farmers to upscale their level of production .

The federal government with the Agricultural transformation agenda to increase crop production and also to create value added food processing industries as a means to reduce food imports and create jobs, has given the state a platform to call for private sector participation in the poultry value chain alongside other 22 agricultural chains.

Investments into the poultry industry in the country recently got a boost with a Multi-Net group leading with plans to establish a farm and also the African development bank injecting 34.5 billion naira to boost the agricultural sector.
A partnership between the government and a Portuguese company to establish a feed mill in the country is on going.( pls check earlier posts for details of these investments.)

 Investors in the poultry value chain can look into these areas;

1) Processing plant: many of the smuggled products are processed ,indicating the preference for more processed poultry.

A processing plant can process poultry as chicken sausages, canned chicken, processed frozen, stewed or fried.
The introduction of new processed products will not only be very profitable but more jobs will be available as more chicken will be in demand.

 2) Egg powder plant; investors can look into this area, egg powder is very important in so many industries and establishment of such will also increase egg sales. The state is embarking on a school feeding programme, where eggs will be part of the menu.
This programme itself demands more eggs to be produced ,and also the eggplant will compliment this effort to ensure that eggs are always available,by extending the shelf-life.
There are seasons where there is egg glut, the egg powder plant will solve this problem and add more economic value to it.

 3) Production is another point of investment: we are calling for investors to revamp the industry in terms of more production. This will be traced to the onset of production.
There are partnerships with various hatcheries with various breeds in the country, however new and well established breeds can be introduced into the country, to add to what is on ground and also create a platform for breeding. Breeding centers can be established to fashion- out how to get our own highly productive and hardy breed.

 4) Waste management: investors can look into the bio-gas plant to generate electricity and gas or to process as fertilizers which can benefit farmers.

5) Production of fashion accessories: feathers can also be processed and sold as fashion accessories. The blood and fat can also be processed and incorporated into animal feed.

6)Transportation : investors can look into cooling vans, trucks and buses. This is to ensure that the products get to the market in good condition. The transportation of live birds to markets is another area of investment.

Building 3D printed tanks by hand ..

Michael Sng is a one-man tank factory. The Singapore-based designer hand-built the walking mecha toy Codename: Colossus from 435 3D-printed parts. A former graphic designer, Sng previously sold Stikfas, a stick-figure toy he co-created, to Hasbro. Colossus started out as a way to learn new skills. "I didn't know a lot of electronics," Sng, 38, says. "I learned from scratch."He designed the toy as a 3D CAD file, printing each part on a small UP Plus 2 printer. "It's 60cm tall, but none of the parts is larger than 12cm long," he explains. "They're put together with hundreds of screws." Sng also hand-wired the working legs, guns and lights, and hand-painted each part, including the interior and tiny characters. (The tank's shell conceals a cannon that fires table tennis balls.) The process took 18 months and cost Sng more than $3,000 (£2,070). Colossus was part passion project, part audition: under the Machination Studios moniker, Sng's conceived a fictional universe for the toys, set after the first world war "where air power never happened, and tanks just got bigger and bigger." read more @wired.co.uk

DHL's delivery drone can make drops quicker than a car..

The latest version of DHL's delivery drone has made more than 100 successful deliveries and can get parcels to remote villages faster than transporting them across difficult terrain in a car. The third generation of the company's Parcelcopter completed a three month test period of autonomously carrying parcels to and from set locations in Bavaria, Germany. From January to March this year DHL operated a 'Skyport' where a selected number of private customers in the Reit im Winkl area could take their parcels and put them into the port. Once the parcel was inserted its delivery system would begin, the drone would take-off and fly to another port eight kilometers away. The drone's cargo was typically either sporting goods or urgently needed medicines and it arrived at the Alm station within just eight minutes of take-off," DHL said in a statement. The same journey normally takes 30 minutes by car, according to DHL. The drone made 130 deliveries in three months, carrying individual payloads of almost 2kg and flying up to 40mph. The company launched its first drone delivery service in 2014, with its first development of the Parcelcopter. At the time the copter was used over a 12km open water route, delivering parcels to the car-free island of Juist in Lower Saxony. The first drone trial could carry up to 1.2kg per trip and provided the community of 1,700 people with basic medical aid. Culled from wired.co.uk

AGRIBUSINESS: The role of water hyacinth in industrialization and the sustainable development goals.

AGRIBUSINESS: The role of water hyacinth in industrialization and the sustainable development goals. . The water hyacinth an invasive water plant has great potential for industrialization. The plant is not found on all water bodies in the world, but the nations that have this gift can actually power industrialization in other nations. Water hyacinth has so many uses and benefits, but i want to round up the values here stating how the benefits can go round and achieve sustainable development goals; The water hyacinth can produce clean cheap energy by means of bio gas, this can in-turn be a power source for generating cheap energy that can run industries making the cost of production less and produce easy access to cheaper goods. When power generation is cheap, manufacturing is cheaper, more goods are produced and more people are employed. The energy generated is termed clean energy because the degrees of pollution from emissions is minimal .The energy can be used to power animal houses, thus producing cheap heating source especially in piggery and poultry farms. The production of cheap energy will give rise to various industries and economic growth of participating countries. One of the goal is partnership to achieve the desired outcome of development, this can come in form of training, supply of equipment to harvest and process the hyacinth. The bio-digesters could be provided as technical support, mainly from the developed countries to the developing nation. AGRIBUSINESS: The role of water hyacinth in industrialization and the sustainable development goals. The processing of the water hyacinth can be broadened as most of the products can be exchanged for foreign currency. The climate is better for it as all the products are eco-friendly. The water plant though invasive,an aggressive approach in terms of processing and uses can make the plant an asset.

Cremation of pets as a business.

The loss of a pet can be devastating,no matter the cause of death. Pets are nowadays regarded as a member of the household,so their deaths are usually so emotion laden that most owners want the transition to be less traumatic.

This is what this company is offering pet lovers.Traverse City native Kerri Collier was devastated when one of her pets died a few years ago and she was not impressed with the lack of choices she was given to dispose of the remains.

Dustin Collier is a contractor. He built the structure that Great Lakes Pet Memorial occupies. The business opened in 2008. It was the first time Kerri Collier had run a business. There was a learning curve involved.

Collier discovered that many local veterinarians used pet crematories in southern Michigan. She became a sales agent, visiting local veterinarian offices and touting the advantages of local service and reduced turnaround times.

The business now deals with about 2,000 pets each year, mostly dogs and cats, but also iguanas, gerbils, ducks, birds, pigs, alpacas and llamas. One client wanted a beloved pony cremated, but the crematory at Great Lakes Pet Memorial can only handle animals that weigh a maximum of 450 pounds.

That animal had to be transported to a larger facility. Cremation services account for about two-thirds of the company's income. It charges between $85 and $250 to cremate a cat or dog, according to weight — which determines time needed in the crematory.

A smaller portion of the operation's income comes from memorials including stones, urns, jewelry and other products that can contain portions of the pet's ashes.

The business employs four people in addition to Collier. Collier said her goal is to provide caring service to clients.

The facility includes a cold storage area with separate spaces for each pet It's dignified — each animal has their own space while waiting for cremation.
