This very technology that allows us to keep up with the Kardashians also makes our smartphones unparalleled medical devices. A startup called Tissue Analytics lets you take pictures of a wound over time on your smartphone, allowing doctors to determine whether it's healing or festering.

   AliveCor lets you capture an electrocardiogram at home and alerts doctors if something is wrong with your heart. Netra Labs lets you take eye tests at home using mobile technology.

 China's internet giant Tencent recently acquired a major stake in Guahao, a startup that grew a massive user base as it enabled real-time geolocated physician appointments.

 This service was integrated into WeChat, as part of Tencent's vision of social digital healthcare. And there's a hardware and medical device arm – evident in the company's recent unveiling of its own glucometer.

 Because of all we are demanding from our smartphones and social networks, entrepreneurs with limited resources can now do what only governments could do ten years ago.

 All of these companies and hundreds more are leveraging today's Kardashianomics to make healthcare easier and effective while significantly reducing costs and freeing up our lives.

HOW TO MAKE GOOGLE CARDBOARD VR HEADSET.

Google has released an app that lets you slot your Android phone into some cardboard to make a virtual-reality headset. The app, titled Cardboard, is a clever way of making virtual reality accessible to a large number of people at relatively little cost. Virtual reality has made exciting progress over the past several years. However, developing for VR still requires expensive, specialized hardware. Thinking about how to make VR accessible to more people, a group of VR enthusiasts at Google experimented with using a smartphone to drive VR experiences. The outcome was Cardboard, which Google describes as "a no-frills enclosure that transforms a phone into a basic VR headset, and the accompanying open software toolkit that makes writing VR software as simple as building a web or mobile app". To build it yourself, you'll need a load of corrugated cardboard (Google suggests using an extra-large pizza box). A pair of lenses with a 40mm focal distance to keep the screen in focus, two magnets to act as hardware buttons, some velcro strips and an eight cm rubber band to hold the phone in place. An NFC tag to launch the app by tapping the headset. Announced in 2014, Google Cardboard has shipped over five million units to date. The idea is simple: it's a no-frills enclosure that transforms a phone into a basic VR headset. Since the launch of Cardboard, Google has focused on releasing more VR content and there are thousands of VR apps and games to download from the Android store. YouTube also now hosts a selection of 360-degree videos.
