AGRIBUSINESS : Recycle tyre business and poverty eradication.
AGRIBUSINESS : Recycle tyre business and poverty eradication. The effect of climatic changes are felt all over the world in varying degrees, with iceberg melting to extreme flooding, drought in other areas and severe hot weather in different regions.
The call to save our environment by changing our lifestyle, work style and agricultural practices has been on for a while birthing different initiatives but all with a common goal to save the environment.
Old tyres are usually collected and burnt in heaps thus polluting the atmosphere and also causing respiratory problems in man.
The burning which releases toxic gases to the atmosphere which contributes to the warming effect of the climate. Tyres can be recycled to prevent damage to our health and environment.
AGRIBUSINESS : Recycle tyre business and poverty eradication.
Tyres can be used to eradicate poverty by using it in agriculture as 1)fish tank .2)snail housing. 3) garden 4) farm see tyres have also found uses in furniture, building and fashion industry.
The reduce, reuse and recycle initiative is one of such drives to save our environment by changing our lifestyle.
The initiative has turned various waste to wealth such as the recycling of tyres to wealth and eradicate poverty by creating jobs and valuable products.
Tyres can be recycled to make schools that are durable and cost effective depending on the design. Millions of children all over the world are in dire need of shoes, this need can be met by turning tyres into shoes, creating jobs for members of the community as well as poverty eradication.
Tyres can also be recycles to basins, buckets and feeders for animals. Salim, Mahamud Mazur Rahman is recycling scrape tyres which he slices before he puts into shape. This way he feeds his family of six. The recycled tyre products, though rugged in looks, serve well for rough use and is more durable than the classy company plastic tyres.
These recycled tyre buckets are basically used for fetching water from well, basins for feeding domestic animals.source

How to set up an aerial vegetable farm with plastic bottles.
How to set up an aerial vegetable farm with plastic bottles. Plastic bottles have found various uses in agriculture from drinker to feeder to brooder and fish tank, these innovations have turned waste to wealth and also ensuring a clean environment.
An agripreneur has used waste plastic bottles to set up an aerial vegetable farm. Anthony Mutugi has grown 294 spinaches and kales on a 4m by 5m by 3m space.
The 294 crops may require about 0.02 acres on a flat ground.
The Kiambu’s Juja area farmer has suspended six crops in the one-and-half-litre bottles with a wire string in a shed net wooden structure that creates greenhouse effects for quick growth.
Each of the bottles is lying horizontally with its bellies ‘scoped’ slightly to accommodate about three quarters of a kilo soil and the kale or spinach. Each of the crops is one and half feet away from the other and the space of one row to the other is about one and half feet.
The crops depend on irrigation. The excess water can drain via the uncapped opening of the bottle. Wedding is done by hand in this aerial farm. Soil nutrients are not leeched since the bottle is non-porous.
It is a perfect example for urban farmers, who do not have permanent residences.
They can move with their crops any time by unhooking the strings and dissembling the wooden farm. source

Urban farming using sacks for food security.
Agriculture is the future of our work, with the ever growing population and climate change the techniques of growing food and raising animals need to be improved to cater for the population and ensure food security.
Land now is a scarce resource and many more farmers are utilizing what they have to maximize profits. Agriculture today is not only practiced on farms, today urban farming is the driving force in food production. Urban farming refers too city farming or better still smart farming to produce vegetables that augment income of farmers and provide a means of livelihood for others.
Urban farming can be practiced in various areas such as sidewalks, rooftops, flowerbeds, terraces or even lawns. This type of farming can also be practiced with various items such as in bottles, jars, trough plates ,flower pots, plastic bottles and even in sacks. The hydroponics system is a type of urban farming that utilizes minimal space but still gives the required harvest of vegetables and fish.
Urban farming is fast taking root in Africa as a source of income for the young, old and the young at heart. The sack farming involves planting vegetables in prepared sacks, these can be stacked in courtyards, corners and gardens. The advantage is that more is produced using minimal space, its easy and cheap to start.
Urban farming with sacks is done as follows 1) sacks are filled with manure, soil and small stones that enable water to drain. 2) plant vegetables, onions, spinach from the tops and sides of these sacks referred to as multi-story gardens. The plant are usually watered once a day in the evenings, and the plants are spread with correct pesticides to prevent attack.
Urban farming using sacks is a good and cost effective way to introduce farming to schools, this initiative in the school agric project will not only be a source of learning but can also be a means of income for the school and food for the students. Sack farming will provide a means of income for young school leavers, and unemployed youths who want to farm but they have no land.
City farming, either in sacks or on small bits of land, has taken root in Cameroon, Malawi and Ghana with 25 to 50 percent of all city households said to be engaged in food cropping. In Malawi, 700,000 city dwellers have home gardens while in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo and some schools have their own gardening programs. continue
