Seedless snack peppers latest result of change in breeding programme.

Snack peppers have been a growth segment for years. New in this segment is a red seedless snack pepper by Eminent Seeds, which will be available on the shelves year-round for the first time next year.

There is one hectare of the peppers in Spain as well as in the Netherlands, while there is also interest in other countries. "We seamlessly respond to the growth in this segment that seems to have no end," says Sales Manager Niels Koolstra. "With this seedless variety we are one of the first."

What is special is that, because the variety is seedless, you can eat the snack pepper 'right up to the stem'. "Basically just like an apple, but completely seedless," explains Kevin Valk, Team Lead Pepper Breeding, "and with the same juicy bite." Other notable features are a high brix and a long shelf

11 Tips to Increase Male Dog Fertility.

11 Tips to Increase Male Dog Fertility.

.Infertility and low-fertility affect dogs just like other mammalian species, including humans. For dog breeders, these become true worries when looking to breed them. While a few infertility problems are inherited, many just develop with age.

Dog Blog — Articles, Guides, Reviews, Interviews & News About Dogs
Low infertility in dogs is due to several factors such as age, injuries, drugs, disease,( Brucella canis) physical defects, inability to ejaculate, degeneration of the testes, low sperm count, and congenital abnormalities.

                                   CAUSES OF INFERTILITY.

1)Test Your Dog for Brucella Canis.    Brucella canis is a gram-negative bacterium that can be a reason for your dog’s infertility or low fertility. Brucella canis causes brucellosis in dogs and other canines.

The disease manifests as orchitis and epididymitis in male dogs, placentitis, endometritis and abortions in females. It can lead to infertility in both sexes. Other notable but less common symptoms include inflammation in the eyes and appendicular and axial skeleton. Brucella canis affects humans, too, but it is extremely rare.

The symptoms of the disease vary significantly in both the canine genders. Males face infertility as their bodies produce antibody against the sperm. It may further manifest in the form of inflammation of the testes, which settles down gradually.  Females face abortion of developing fetuses

DOGS: HOW TO BREED BOERBOELS..If you are looking to learn how to breed Boerboels, Get our guide: text vet to 35818

Therefore, it is an exceptional guard and working farm dog. They were bred with a specific purpose centuries ago, and therefore, they have an interesting and rich history which we are going to review. Furthermore, we are also going to analyze the appearance standards and desirable temperament and traits.

Boerboels originate from South Africa and they appeared for the first time during the 1600s. Boers bred them to protect the homestead and to act as watchdogs and working farm dogs.

However, before them, they mainly used Mastiff-type dogs and Hounds for this purpose. Jan van Riebeeck arrived in South Africa in 1652 to establish a trading post, as commanded by the Dutch East India Company.

7 REASONS WHY DOG BREEDING IS GOOD.

7 REASONS WHY DOG BREEDING IS GOOD .

Breeding dogs inherited a very bad reputation because of irresponsible breeders! Yet, a lot of dog breeders are full of love and happy to give all the time, money and care that are required to breed dogs ethically. Here are the top reasons why dog breeding is a good source of income.

There is no magic  in dog breeding, but if it is performed by somebody smart and willing to learn, then the activity will be done properly and  such breeders produce champions, or at least, healthy dogs with great temperaments.

Breeders  that are profit-obsessed and happy to cut corners on his dogs’ health will have  resulting litters of puppies with issues over time. Text vet to 35818 to join the exclusive club.

Specializing in one or 2 breeds  will stand the breeder out as  focused and dedicated. One of the many reasons why breeding dogs can be beneficial is due to specialized breeding.

Selective breeding is all about keeping a particular line active in your kennel. The purposeful selected dogs with the intention to produce, preserve, or remove specific physical characteristics, mental traits, health conditions, skills, and aptitudes to perform specific tasks. This practice can be done naturally and selectively.

If you use specialized breeding, you produce dogs that show the desired traits and remove unwanted genetic traits.

Originally, dogs were adopted and domesticated in order to be useful, so specialized breeding is meant to also reinforce specific skills from a given dog.  The breeding of dogs to enforce a skill that is prevalent in a breed has been used for years and is of great benefit.

All specialized breeds that help the world around them, all thanks to a skill and trait that was seen in their breed, and reinforced through selective breeding..

The German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and Border Collie have all benefited from this specialized breeding over hundreds of years so that they are now excellent at their jobs.

Choosing  to breed a specialized dog will  reinforce these positive traits and improve skills in the breed if the breeding program is carried out correctly and safely.

Olam invests $150M in Nigerian poultry, feed sectors.

Olam International to invest in animal feed manufacturing, poultry breeding and hatchery in the states of Kaduna and Kwara in Nigeria. Olam International (also known as Olam Group) plans to invest NGN30 billion (US$150 million) in two state-of-the-art feed mills, poultry breeding farms and a hatchery to produce day-old chicks in Nigeria. A groundbreaking ceremony in Kaduna state last week was attended by Olam Group Nigeria and the governor of Kaduna State, H.E. Malam Nasir el-Rufai, and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Chief Audu Ogbeh, who was representing the president of Nigeria, H.E. Muhammadu Buhari. “This is the latest investment by Olam in Nigeria’s domestic food and agricultural production sector after our recent investments in wheat milling assets and the ongoing development of our 10,000-hectare rice farm and mill in Nasarawa state,” said Olam’s CEO for Africa, Venkataramani Srivathsan. “This new venture into animal feed is a win-win for Olam and Nigeria. Domestically produced meat is being hampered by a lack of good quality feed, support for farmers and availability of young stock, but consumption is set to increase. By investing in poultry and fish feed, we can utilize the wheat bran from our wheat milling operations, as well as maximize our sourcing networks to buy corn and soy from local farmers. Our investment in the hatchery will help boost poultry production and, in the long run, help reduce the country’s reliance on imports. This development underlines the continued confidence we share in Nigeria’s ambition for self-sufficiency.” Approximately two-thirds of the total investment is committed to building and operating the facilities in Kaduna state, with the balance to be invested in an integrated poultry and fish feed mill in Kwara state. Total annual feed capacity is expected to be more than 600,000 metric tons. The Kaduna mill will supply mainly Nigeria’s northern markets, while the southwestern region will be the main focus of the Kwara plant. Sourcing corn and soybeans locally, it is hoped the feed mills will encourage domestic production of these crops, and food security will be improved with Olam’s planned construction of in-house storage of 100,000 metric tons. The poultry breeding farm in Kaduna is expected to produce more than 1 million hatching eggs each week to the hatchery. Olam International, based in Singapore ,is a leading agri-business operating across the value chain in 70 countries, supplying a range of products across 16 platforms to more than 16,000 customers worldwide. They have a direct sourcing and processing presence in most major producing countries, Olam has built a global leadership position in many of its businesses. source Wattagnet.com

Feeding cattle with garlic reduces methane emission.

. Cattle produce a lot of methane which is a green house gas, thus contributing to global warming. The feeding pattern of the cattle results in series of burps/flatus generating a lot of methane, which in turn causes climatic changes. A school of thought suggests cutting down on beef production or totally stop the production, but the benefits of the cattle cannot be ignored and since there are no acceptable substitutes other options must be proposed.. The vegan group advocates more converts, but many people are unwillingly to rock the boat. The livestock industry accounts for over 15% of the total greenhouse emissions, even higher than that of the transport sector, thus adjustments must be made in livestock sector. These approaches will involve improved genetic selection through breeding, modification of dietary composition, rumen microbial manipulation and vaccines against the methanogenic bacteria that generate the methane in these animals and various other techniques. It is possible that among the approaches or with a combination of approaches there might be a way to reduce the global burden of methane emissions from livestock. The changes in nutrition and feed play a vital role on methane production by ruminants thus manipulating the diet of these animals to reduce absolute methane emissions is the key to reduce these emissions. There has been various modifications to feed/feeding pattern by various feed companies all with varying degrees of success such as DSM, a Dutch science firm, developed a powder that can be added to feed and inhibits the production of methane in the cow’s rumen. According to findings published in the National Academy of Sciences, researchers from DSM and Penn State University studied the effect of the supplement on 48 dairy cows over the course of 12 weeks and found promising results. They observed that cows whose feed contained the powder produced 30 percent less methane and gained weight compared to cows who ate typical diets and milk production was not changed. Feed intervention has also been done by German researchers who created a methane-reducing pill, and scientists in Wales found that cows who consumed garlic produced 50 percent less gas although the impact of garlic-based diet on the taste of milk or meat is largely unknown . Feed supplements, additives ,changes in diet and management of herd could hold answer to this climatic change without compromising the protein source and major source of milk and milk products in man.
