How to use green tea leaves to boost production in poultry.
The use of green tea as a feed additive to boost production in poultry has shown immense benefits in terms of quality of birds, size of eggs and the growth phase with the birds reaching maturity faster.
The race to start production in poultry without antibiotics has brought a lot of innovations with many scholars turning to plants and plant extracts and herbs to boost production.
A study in Bangladesh has shown that antibiotic-free poultry production is possible by using green tea as a feed additive. The study showed that 0.25% of green tea ,250 grams in every 100 kilograms of feed as feed additive could bring better results than the use of antibiotics in poultry production.
Another study showed the potency of green tea additive as a potent deworming agent and also as an anticoccidial agent. Birds fed the extract demonstrated better gut health as demonstrated by absence of coccidiosis in the flock.
Birds were bigger than birds not fed the tea extracts,as the birds had better feed utilization thus promoting growth.
The green tea extract contains flavonoids which are powerful antioxidants, amino acids, xanthine alkaloids, vitamin and minerals, which are safe for humans making the extract a substitute for antibiotic growth promoters.
How to use tea to treat dogs.
This is a home remedy to treat dogs using tea. The tea that is of importance are the normal black tea,not spiced tea and definitely no herbal tea. The tea must be brewed from actual tea shrub and not fruit or herb. Tea contains tannin a potent astringent with antiseptic properties. The tannin has antibacterial, antiviral properties as well as wound healing properties.
The tannin in tea with its astringent effect produces a dry, tightening sensation which helps to stop bleeding. The tannin work by activating the thrombocytes which initiates rapid blood clotting. The potency of the tannin is proportional to the concentration of the tea, hence the stronger the tea, the more potent the tannin.
Tannin have anti-inflammatory, antiviral effects and antibacterial effects, making tea capable of preventing spread of infections by creating a protective layer over the exposed tissues, while promoting wound healing and removing any offensive odor emanating from the site.
The tea can be used to treat dogs in the following ways ;1) for cuts ,sores and bruises. 2) eye care especially in cases of conjunctivitis. 3)burns.
When there is a wound, clean the wound and place moist tea bags on surface for an hour. The wound can also be cleaned with tea solution, the cooled brewed tea can be poured on swabs to clean wound. The brewed tea can also be used when cold to treat burns, this will hasten healing ,reduce the size of burnt area and reduce oozing fluid.
Dog's ocular mucous membrane are sometimes irritated which are obvious by redness, discharge, swelling and scratching by the dogs. The eye can be flushed with tea solution using a syringe or swabbed with tea solution about 3 times a day. The tea bag (cooled) can be applied on the eyes directly for about 2 mins, this should be done 2 times daily for maximum benefit.
The word of caution here is that a high level of hygiene should be practiced for maximum benefit. Hands must be washed and clean before you start wound dressing, also use a clean swab for each eye you are cleaning and most importantly dont use same tea bag for the 2 eyes to prevent cross-infection.

Garlic is high in sulfur thus exhibiting actions of sulfonamides drugs and as such are good for gastrointestinal infections. Poultry farmers normally seek immune boosters for increased productivity of their birds, garlic offers such benefits. Crushed garlic -water mix acts as a tonic to boost immune system and also enhance appetite.
Birds dosed with garlic-water mix grow faster and produce big eggs, while birds going into moulting phase can be triggered to produce more eggs of bigger sizes for a longer period. #herbal Garlic.

How to use Aloe Vera in poultry .
Aloe vera plant is native to North Africa, Southern Europe, Africa, but today, aloe vera is grown in tropical climates worldwide. The use of aloe vera can be traced back 6,000 years to ancient Egypt. A 2014 study published by the Cambridge University looked at tomato plants coated with aloe gel. The report showed evidence that the coating successfully blocked the growth of many types of harmful bacteria on the vegetables thus this can be sprayed on crops instead of using pesticides.
Aloe vera has found tremendous uses in homes, petcare ,horticulture and now in poultry. Poultry farmers use the aloe vera juice for cuts and bruises, they also use it to discourage cannibalism. When a bird has been pecked, the farmer applies the juice to the site and the bitter taste prevents further pecking. see
The Aloe Vera juice is mixed with water and given to birds to ensure gut health.Aloe vera is rich in vitamins, minerals and enzymes that promotes overall good health in chickens. Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, and E are found in Aloe Vera. Farmers add the juice to water to prevent coccidiosis in the flock, using 3 teaspoons to a gallon of water.
Aloe Vera is also used to boost productivity as it has been used to promote growth in broilers. Aloe vera extract given to broilers at a rate of 4 teaspoons of Aloe Vera extract to one gallon of drinking water found that the broilers grew bigger and faster than those broilers who had not been fed the extract. Aloe Vera also contains calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, sodium and zinc, which are important for health of the birds.
Aloe Vera has been used to treat bumblefoot and scaly leg. This is done by mixing the chopped leaves with water, coconut oil then blending the mixture to form a paste, that can be easily applied topically. read also
Smart system counts eggs, detects diseases for poultry farmers.
Farmers can save on production costs, detect diseases and know the output of individual chickens in real time via mobile telephone by installing smart technology in poultry cages.
Domotele Technology's Machine to machine (M2M) system is customized to alert farmers of any health risk as well as the performance of each chicken.
Installed sensors collect the health or production data before relaying it to a safe domain in the cloud for the farmer to access it via the Internet. The Internet of Things system can also be instructed to process the data and relay it in form of a short message service (SMS) for those who do not have Internet.
The installed sensors in cages help farmers know which chicken laid an egg on a given day. They also know the total number of eggs laid by the end of the day.
The technology helps farmers know which hens are not laying so that such hens can be culled to avoid wasting feeds.
Farmers also know the number of eggs produced per day, thus preventing pilfering as workers cannot steal eggs because they are counted and an immediate alert is sent to the owner.
The nesting cages have radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and weight sensors that track the contents inside and can determine if a hen has laid an egg.
This puts into motion the egg counter process.
RFID tags are intelligent bar codes that can 'talk' to a networked system to track every product that you buy in the supermarket for instance when you are checking out.
The system can be customized to notify farmers of a diseases outbreak through a wireless sense node tag as well as change of the cage environment.
Most farmers learn of an outbreak after chickens start dying. Early disease notification alerts the farmer to take quick action to prevent further spread.
If the sensors detect that the temperature in the cage has gone above the set threshold, for instance 25 degrees Celsius, the farmer receives a notification in their smart phones.
They can turn on fans with the smart phone from wherever they are,the fans run until the required temperature is achieved. contact
