Duke Energy to buy power from swine, poultry waste.
A new facility that captures methane gas to generate renewable electricity will be built in North Carolina
Duke Energy, a sustainable electric and gas company that serves 7.3 million customers in the midwestern and southeastern United States, plans to purchase swine and poultry waste output from a facility planned for North Carolina – using the captured methane gas to generate renewable electricity at four power stations.
Carbon Cycle Energy will build and own the facility, which is to be located in eastern North Carolina, although the exact location of the facility has not yet been announced.
"It is encouraging to see the technological advances that allow waste-to-energy projects in North Carolina to be done in an environmentally responsible and cost-effective manner for our customers," said David Fountain, Duke Energy president -North Carolina.
Under North Carolina's Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (REPS), Duke Energy companies must meet specific compliance targets for swine and poultry waste. Duke Energy is already buying electricity generated from other facilities in the state.
"We are pleased to partner with Carbon Cycle Energy to help meet our compliance objectives," added Fountain. "The gas from this project will generate carbon neutral electricity compared to the emissions that would result if the waste was left to decay naturally." Expanding the utility's renewable energy output, the captured methane will be treated, injected into the pipeline system and used at four Duke Energy plants in North Carolina.
Under a 15-year term, Carbon Cycle Energy is expected to produce more than 1 million MMBtus of pipeline-quality captured methane a year. Duke Energy should yield about 125,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy a year – enough to power about 10,000 homes for a year. The renewable energy credits (RECs) generated annually by the effort will help satisfy state mandates.

MONEY MAKING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE POULTRY VALUE CHAIN.
There are sub sections in the chain that can be investment opportunities :1) Training: here investors can train on poultry rearing and production. The investors will train and encourage small, medium scale and large scale production.
The training will encompass all aspects of production including proper branding and marketing. The participants will also train more people and employment opportunities will be created.
The graduates are tracked and in constant touch with training institutes, this will generate a data pool for the organization. The data generated will give adequate information about the production status, success of project will be monitored, easy access to drugs, feed and vaccines. This data will be used to pool information regarding location, capacities and also as performance indicators, which will be a springboard for expansion and export opportunities.
Production, these are the graduates that set up the farms. The production could be broilers, cockerels, layers and turkeys. The type of production depends on the individual and target market. I have highlighted the advantages in previous posts, check them out.
2) Processing: here investors have a wide array to choose from. Packaging: the processors using the slaughter line can produce and package chicken in branded bags. The packaging could be plain chicken or spiced/flavored.The processor could go into production of spice chicken such as marinated chicken, curry chicken, per boiled chicken, and chicken parts packaging.
The 2nd level of investment here will be processing the chicken into new products such as a)sausages b)minced chicken c)chicken kebabs d) chicken nuggets e) chicken fingers f)chicken fillings.
Investors here will profit from production and sale of these products.Investors could be manufacturers of these machines, suppliers of processing equipment or the producers of these products.
The 3rd level of production in the processing is the canning segment; here the chicken is processed into various products and presented in cans. The chicken can be processed and canned in tomato sauce, oil or just broth.
The next phase of investment is 3)Transportation: here investors supply various cooling vans to transport the products. The transport is not only cooling vans but properly aired cars, trucks and buses to transport other products to the market.
Investors could also access this chain,by utilizing waste from the chicken.
Waste to wealth initiative
The waste from birds are directed to bio digester to produce electricity.
Feathers from the birds are processed, colored and used as decor, fashion accessories, clothing ornaments;investors here have both local and international market.
The feed makers can also benefit from chain by processing the blood, making it into blood meal and including it as feed ingredients
Marketing: investors form a network from producers to processors. This will provide the necessary supply of products for onward distribution to supermarkets, stores, offices e.t.c.
Investors in this chain have a wide array to choose from, with money making opportunities at every level.
Education, branding and marketing are vital keys to success of this venture, and investors here will need to embrace them.

ELECTRICITY FROM CHICKEN WASTE.
The use of waste to generate electricity in the world today has various advantages to the individuals, nation and the environment.
The waste generated in the poultry industry, the livestock farms, agricultural waste, food waste and human waste can be channeled into a bio-gas plant to produce methane, heat and electricity.
The power generation in most countries need to be upgraded to serve the populace better, drive industrial growth and maintain a safe environment. The millions of tons of chicken droppings/litter can be channeled and put in a bio-gas plant to generate electricity. Waste of poultry has before now been a menace to the society because of improper management and disposal, but with the introduction of a pre-treatment technology that treats the waste before its passed to the anaerobic digester, for breakdown to produce the desired products.
The use of chicken waste to generate power will reduce cost of production in the manufacturing industry, which will translate to lowered overhead cost, lower prices of products and more profit for manufacturers.
The generation of electricity from waste is a viable project taking to consideration the amount of poultry birds that are in the country; in a well managed system various sectors/areas can actually provide power to their community.
The generation of electricity from chicken droppings is on the move..................join the change movement! no more blackouts....Electricity for all.

WASTE TO WEALTH USING POULTRY DROPPINGS.
The poultry industry is a viable sector ensuring food security and contributing to the GDP of the economy. The revenue generated from this industry has been harnessed to drive growth and development but better management practices can actually increase the figures and provide more by- products that will further propel growth.
The waste produced by the birds is a threat to the environment because of improper disposal and utilization of millions of tons of manure and litter soiled droppings produced daily
. The waste generated by poultry is a problem to farmers as the high nitrogen content of the waste releases ammonia fumes in the air making environment unbearable, hence most poultry farmers are at a loss at how to manage the waste.
Poultry waste normally is used as fertilizer for vegetable farm but it must be stored for about a period of 6 months before it can be used, the use of poultry waste to make bio-gas is a much better way.
Chicken waste can be used to produce eco-friendly bio-gas which will provide energy in form of heat, gas(methane) for cooking and electricity and the digested slurry is disposed as treated fertilizer which has better market value.
The use of the chicken manure to make gas requires specialized digester: the chicken manure is a peculiar waste to use to generate bio--gas because of the high nitrogen content ,but technology has found a way around it .
The use of a specialized pre-treatment technology makes the anaerobic digestion easy, and the gas generated can be used to power homes and business across the country.
