Dandruff refers to flaking off of dead cells,when skin cells die. Dandruff in dogs is usually a pile up of dead cells in the coat of the dog.
The flakes are obvious when dogs scratches the coat.The normal dying of cells is the main cause of the dandruff but other underlying factors may result in the condition.
These causes include:
1)allergic reaction
2) parasitic infection.
3)poor hygiene.
4)poor nutritional status.
5)low levels of oil in the body.
6)poor levels of fluid in the body.
7)dogs on dry foods are prone to dandruff.
TREATMENT; note underlying cause and treat accordingly.
1) bath dog with medicated shampoo.
2)ensure no ectoparasites are present.
3) give balanced diet with a supplement of fish oil.
4) make cool fresh water available regularly.
5) in corporate coconut oil to grooming protocol.
