Heineken Lokpobiri who led the delegation stated that the Nigerian- Mexican concern is to cultivate about 9000 hectares of farmland in Edo State, creating about 85,000 jobs in Nigeria. Agriculture; Nigeria embrace green alternative policy.

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture has unveiled a new plan aimed at ensuring the protection of local and foreign investments. Audu Ogbeh told journalists after this week’s Federal Cabinet meeting, that his ministry was talking with the Interior Ministry about training personnel, to take up that responsibility. State House correspondent Tai Amodu reports that the cabinet has endorsed a document containing all policies needed to make agriculture the alternative to oil. The document, called “The Green Alternative,” contains objectives, policies and interventions needed to be put in place in order for Nigeria to achieve self sufficiency and become a major importer of agricultural products as it used to be in the 60s and 70s. Ogbeh concedes that times are hard and there is severe shortage of food, noting that this is due to the fact that Nigeria imports a large part of the food it consumes.Read more

The shelter put out a call for volunteer Pokemon Go dog walkers in a Facebook post last week, but has yet to see any come in to walk a dog. An unexpected, real-life adventure unfolded for two women playing the popular new mobile game Pokémon Go. While waiting for a pizza they’d ordered to be delivered, Kaitlin Kouts and Tiffany Revay took out their phones and set about their Lufkin, Texas, neighborhood searching for an elusive Jigglypuff in the augmented reality game. What they found instead was an injured puppy in need of veterinary care. The pair told reporters that when they came across the puppy, he appeared to be in pain and was bleeding from the mouth. They looked for his guardian, but no one knew where the dog had come from. As the two were busy searching for answers and help, they received a phone call from their pizza deliverer, Skyler Jerke, who wound up playing an important role in saving this puppy. Read

3D printing facilitates innovate surgery in veterinary medicine for blue macaw..

A prosthetic titanium beak has been manufactured using 3D metal printing and implanted on Gigi, a blue macaw (a genus of the parrot family). This unusual prosthetic saved Gigi’s life, as macaws are unable to eat solid foods without a beak. A team of veterinarians, together with 3D printing experts from the Renato Archer Technology and Information Center (CTI) in Campinas, Brazil, developed an implant solution. The successful operation took place at the Animal Care Center in Ipiranga near Sao Paulo. The artificial beak was created thanks to the cooperation of three specialists. The team, dubbed the “Avengers,” was comprised of veterinarian Roberto Fecchio, 3D designer and facial-reconstruction specialist Cicero Moraes, and veterinary dentist Paul Miamoto. The “Avengers” are pioneers in the use of 3D printing technology for saving the lives of wild animals, and previously made a new shell for Freddy the turtle and a beak for an injured toucan. These prosthetics were made of plastic. In Gigi’s case, however, plastic wasn’t suitable.
