There are many ways to explore the animal world, and many people choose to visit animal exhibits to learn about and interact with animals. Animal exhibits like zoos, petting zoos.Every year, many people get sick after visiting an animal exhibit.
From 2010-2015, about 100 outbreaks of illness in people linked to animals in public settings like zoos, fairs, and educational farms were reported to public health officials. Some of the most common harmful germs people get from animals at exhibits are E. coli O157:H7, Cryptosporodium, and Salmonella infections, but there are also many other types of germs that can spread between animals and people.
If you forget to wash your hands after petting an animal, or bring food or drinks into an area with animals, you increase your chance of getting sick. Even animals that look clean and healthy can carry harmful germs, and areas where animals live or roam can be contaminated – you don’t have to touch an animal to get sick.
Steps to ensure safety.
1)Always wash your hands right after petting animals or touching anything in animal areas (where they live, roam, or eat). 2)Wash your hands when you leave animal areas, even if you did not touch the animals.
3)Running water and soap are the best option, if running water and soap are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. 4)Wash your hands with soap and water as soon as a sink is available.
Keep food and drinks out of animal areas.Don’t prepare, serve, or eat food in animal areas (with the exception of service animals, or animals that assist people with disabilities).Don’t share your food with animals, to keep yourself and the animals healthy. Animals should eat the food made for them.

Humans spend nearly one-third of their lives in slumber, yet sleep is still one of biology's most enduring mysteries. Little is known about what genetic or molecular forces drive the need to sleep -- until now. In a study of over 12,000 lines of fruit flies, researchers have found a single gene, called nemuri, that increases the need for sleep.
The NEMURI protein fights germs with its inherent antimicrobial activity and it is secreted by cells in the brain to drive prolonged, deep sleep after an infection.

Animal voice computer software.
A computer scientist with a passion for horses has embarked on an interdisciplinary animal-computer interaction research project which could help us understand what animals are thinking and feeling.
Dr Steve North, a Research Fellow in the Mixed Reality Laboratory (MRL) at The University of Nottingham, is developing a Horse Automated Behavior Identification Tool (HABIT) – new animal-computer interaction software. The aim is to identify horse behavior from unconstrained (amateur) video so we humans can interpret those reactions and understand why they are happening.
The research is being carried out in collaboration with Dr Mandy Roshier, an expert in anatomy and behavior at the University's School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, Dr Carol Hall, an expert in equitation science at Nottingham Trent University and Dr Clara Mancini, a senior lecturer in computer interaction design at the Open University.
Human-computer interaction (HCI) is already well established. The emerging scientific discipline of animal-computer interaction (ACI) looks at the relationship between animals and technology.
By bringing together experts in animal computer interaction, equitation science, ethology, animal behavior and biomedical engineering the aim of HABIT is to develop a software programme that will automatically identify the behavior horses are exhibiting and tell us whether the horse is stressed, sick or suffering. It could be used on farms, at home on our own animals, in zoos and in veterinary practices.

CLAY USES IN VETERINARY PRACTICE.
Clay has be discovered to have healing properties,and they can easily be incorporated into practice as poultices,balms or oral applications to treat disease conditions. There are a wide variety of clay but not all possess the healing properties.The following types have been documented and their benefits highlighted.
Bentonite is a green clay that can vary in the level of mineralization according to where the clay is sourced. Bentonite has a high absorption rate and unique chemical structure. The bentonite is unique because it has surface particles that are both negatively and positively charged. Clay is similar to an ant in that it can carry particles three to four times its size and hold on to them as they travel outside the body,making it very beneficial in fracture repair and bone surgeries.
Montmorillonite is popularly known as French green clay. This type of clay is perfect to consume internally because it rapidly detoxifies and disinfects the body. Montmorillonite gets its green color from the algae rich dried up sea beds of the Mediterranean. When hydrated with purified water, Montmorillonite binds to toxins and holds them safe so they can be excreted out of the body, making French green clay invaluable for removing blood toxins, bacteria and heavy metals. Montmorillonite has anti-inflammatory properties, It also has high in silica content this supports the production of fascia and connective tissue to help in arthritic and muscular conditions.
Illite is a fine particle, non-expansive green clay known to seek out undesirable microbes and ailing tissues.It is rich in sea minerals, it helps support the body’s own healing mechanisms by having the highest adsorption rate. This gives illite the ability to act as a magnet for toxins. It is by far the best choice for detoxification purposes.
Redmond clay is used internally and externally. It has a high sodium and calcium content making it perfect for drawing out infectious agents topically. Redmond clay is used as a poultice , which can be used for joint care, insect bites, stings and any other topical inflammations.
USES THE CLAY.
1) Eliminate internal parasites, fluids, gases, toxins and heavy metals.2) Support a strong immune system by balancing pH levels and supporting healthy intestinal flora. 3) Help detoxify the digestive tract. 4)Dry application used as a disinfectant in treating wounds.5)Clay can immediately stop bleeding wounds and prevent scab formation.
METHODS OF APPLICATION.
1) Mix clay powder and water together and make a dry paste. Apply to bleeding wounds and wounds that need to heal without scabbing. This prevent abscesses and keeps the healing wound from itch-free.
2) Treatment of internal parasites and detoxification. Do the following; use 1 tbsp bentonite, illite, or montmorillonite clay. Make a mix using 4 oz cool pure water for each tsp of clay 1 oz .Let this slurry-mix stand overnight. Give to your dog orally or in some wet food the next morning on an empty stomach. Ensure to wait for at least 2 1/2hours before you feed the dog.
3) Give plenty of water through course of clay-treatment.
4) Used as a poultice. Use 1 lb pure green clay and add 1⁄2 cup pure water to Unbleached cotton muslin. Mix the clay with enough water to make a thick paste.Spread a layer of paste with a wooden spatula on to the center of the muslin , about one inch deep and approximately two inches bigger than the area to be treated. Apply the poultice clay side down and leave it alone until the clay pulls away from the skin. This indicates that the treatment is finished. Repeat daily until healed,usually in 5-7 days.

FIBER RICH DIET REDUCES RISK OF LUNG DISEASE.
A diet rich in fiber may not only protect against diabetes and heart disease, it may reduce the risk of developing lung disease, according to new research.
"Lung disease is an important public health problem, so it's important to identify modifiable risk factors for prevention," said lead author Corrine Hanson PhD, RD, an associate professor of medical nutrition at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. "However, beyond smoking very few preventative strategies have been identified. Increasing fiber intake may be a practical and effective way for people to have an impact on their risk of lung disease."
Analyzing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, researchers report in "The Relationship between Dietary Fiber Intake and Lung Function in NHANES," that among adults in the top quartile of fiber intake: • 68.3 percent had normal lung function, compared to 50.1 percent in the bottom quartile.
• 14. 8 percent had airway restriction, compared to 29.8 percent in the bottom quartile.
In two important breathing tests, those with the highest fiber intake also performed significantly better than those with the lowest intake. Those in the top quartile had a greater lung capacity (FVC) and could exhale more air in one second (FEV1) than those in the lowest quartile.
Researchers reviewed records of 1,921 adults, ages 40 to 79, who participated in NHANES during 2009-2010. Administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NHANES is unique in that it combines interviews with physical examinations. Fiber consumption was calculated based on the amount of fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains participants recalled eating. Those whose diets included more than 17.5 grams of fiber a day were in the top quartile and represented the largest number of participants, 571. Those getting less than 10.75 grams of fiber a day were in the lower group and represented the smallest number of participants, 360.
Fiber-rich diet has been linked to healthy life style free of risk of heart disease,diabetes,colon cancer and bowel diseases emanating from constipation.This new research (according to American Thoracic Society) sheds light on how fiber reduces risk of lung diseases,further reinforcing the need to include more vegetables,fruits,nuts,oatmeal and other fiber rich sources to our menu.
The benefits of fiber-rich meals also has the same results in animals, incorporating vegetables,oatmeal and fruits into their meal has been known to reduce risk of cancer, constipation and as a treatment protocol for diabetic patients and also prevention of diabetes in animals.

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY.
Animals have been known to impact health of humans. Dogs and cat are the common therapy assistants but new insights show that all animals have a role to play in health of man. A cat in a home with an elderly keeps such patients alert and healthy,the minimal movements in the house to feed the cat,a stroll in the garden and even the gentle snuggling of the cat on the lap with light stroking gives life to the patient.
