Disease detecting poultry bio chip.
A new disease detecting bio chip has been launched in Singapore by Veredus laboratories, to rapidly detect, diagnose and analyze 9 major poultry diseases.
The biochip uses a single sample applied to a portable probe that is disposable. This chip unlike the conventional method of testing that requires different samples for different tests requires just one sample for different tests. The chip detects the following diseases, Newcastle disease virus, salmonella pullorum, salmonella enteritidis, campylobacter and avian influenza virus. The bio chip can detect all avian influenza virus types but there is special emphasis on differentiating H5,H7 and H9.
The bio chip called verevet is a portable lab on chip application that detects these public health important poultry diseases. The chip will reduce response time to disease detection but allow rapid response to initiate treatment, thus saving life and money.Veredus laboratories has also developed other chips to detect human and bio- terror infectious disease.
This breakthrough technology is a ray of hope for poultry producers and consumers, the economic implication of this diagnostic tool is enormous and of great benefit to man kind.
